Taylor Swift received the most coveted accolade at the American Music Awards on Sunday, when she was chosen artist of the year in the world’s most significant fan-voted ceremony. Wayne Brady, the host, and comedian rapped during his monologue. “Ain’t nobody being slapped tonight,” Brady said, referring to Will Smith’s infamous Oscars attack on Chris Rock.
Dove Cameron, a former Disney Channel actress who charted this year with the pop hit “Boyfriend,” won the first award of the night for a best new artist. The favorite rock artist was Machine Gun Kelly, dressed in a purple costume with long silver spikes.
