Politics in Chhattisgarh get a new “ABC” thanks to Smriti Irani

Smriti Irani challenges the Baghel government on women’s safety issues and promises to duplicate Amethi’s accomplishments in Chhattisgarh.
Union Minister Smriti Irani presented a new slogan — ABC or Amethi-Bilaspur-Chhattisgarh — in the election-bound State on Friday, challenging Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would recreate its Amethi electoral victory in Chhattisgarh.
Ms. Irani was speaking to party members at the Mahtari Hunkar event, which was held in Bilaspur, 125 kilometers from Raipur, the capital, and was organized by the BJP’s women’s wing.
The Union Minister claimed that Mr. Baghel had also campaigned for Mr. Gandhi in the most recent elections but that the party’s support had been steadily declining there. The Union Minister had defeated former Congress president Rahul Gandhi in 2019 from the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency, once thought of as a pocket borough of the Gandhi family.
If Mr. Baghel is listening, I would like to politely inform him that we caused the Congress to forfeit their deposit in what was once their stronghold during the most recent Assembly elections (2022). Like Arun Ji [Sao, State BJP President] mentioned [in his address], my visit is a sign that we will deal them a similar loss [for the Congress in the Assembly elections held next year].
She then started attacking Congress, particularly cornering it on the subject of women’s safety. She said that since Mr. Baghel, 6,000 women had been violated. Assumed power in 2018 and that the police do not begin to investigate cases until the victims take drastic measures like committing suicide.
“Check your record,”
Prior to that, Mr. Baghel questioned the BJP rally’s emphasis on women’s safety or what he perceived to be its absence in the State. In a press conference, he advised the BJP to consider its own track record in Chhattisgarh, where it ruled for 15 years before to his election, as well as other States where it has held power.
He said the Central Minister should look at the graph of crimes against women where the BJP is in power under Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath. Thus, according him, incidences of uterus excision, botched blindness procedures, and women dying after having been sterilized all happened under the previous Raman Singh-led administration.
He also asked the Center why railway service had been suspended in Chhattisgarh. Smriti Irani ji will have to answer why the railway lines were suspended. Do women rarely use the train? Most women favor using this form of transportation. It is affordable and practical.
