The Last Film Show was also India’s official entry for the Academy Awards in 2023. Pan Nalin, the film’s director, was asked if he was surprised when he learned that his film had been chosen as India’s official submission to the Oscars in an earlier interview with News18 Showsha. “I was really caught aback because my concentration had been on the release,” he said. The picture was distributed in Spain and Germany. We were working on the India release. So I was quite glad to go out to the countryside and simply present the movie to the group of invited guests. That was going swimmingly. It was greatly appreciated by the audience. Screenings were also held in Chennai, Pondicherry, and Hyderabad. When the news broke, it altered the entire plot of the picture. Suddenly, there was a lot of interest in the picture (among everyone). It was nominated before it was even released. “The actors and crew were also ecstatic since we knew how much work we had put in.”
