Kangana Ranaut tweeted a video of singer Asha Bhosle discussing her sister Lata Mangeshkar, saying that she, too, turned down lucrative invitations to play at weddings and celebrations.
Kangana Ranaut, well known for her classic party number London Thumakda from the film Queen, has denied receiving ‘crazy amounts of money’ for dancing at weddings and private parties. To make her point, the actress released a video of singer Asha Bhosle discussing how Lata Mangeshkar was against this behaviour.
Kangana shared a tiny clip of Asha Bhosle from a reality programme and remarked, “Agree. Even if I have the most famous songs, I have never danced at a wedding or a private party… refused a huge sum of money… I’m delighted I came found this video… Lataji is extremely inspirational.”
In the video, Asha discusses how her elder sister, famed singer Lata Mangeshkar, was once given a million dollars to sing at a wedding, but she declined. In the video, Asha states of the offer, “Kaha 2 ghante sirf aap darshan dijiye humari shadi mein… (They told her, “Just come to our wedding for 2 hours.”
Lata Mangeshkar is regarded as one of India’s best singers. She passed away in February of this year. Kangana objected when Lata was not given a tribute at the Grammys or the Oscars, both of which were hosted days following her death. “We must take bold positions against any local awards that pretend to be worldwide and yet overlook and purposefully marginalise renowned artists because of their ethnicity or ideas… both Oscar and Grammy failed to pay honour to Bharat Ratna,” she said on Instagram at the time. Lata Mangeshkar Ji, our media should completely boycott these prejudiced local events masquerading as global honours.”
Kangana also mentioned her friend Chhaya Momaya, whose son Dheer Momaya is a co-producer of the Gujarati film Chhello Show (Last Film Show), which was just nominated for an Oscar. The film is one of 15 that have been nominated for Best International Feature Film. Pan Nalin is in charge of the direction.
Kangana remarked on her Instagram Stories after sharing a poster for the film, ” “@chhaya.momaya, my dearest buddy, you deserve all of this glory…
I don’t know how to explain how happy I am. Congratulations.”
Kangana is currently filming her directorial debut, Emergency. She also plays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film. She often posts photos and videos from the film’s set. Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhry, Shreyas Talpade, and Bhumika Chawla also appear in the historical drama.
Kangana Ranaut claims she ‘denied incredible amount of money’ but never danced at weddings: I have the most famous songs.
