Joe Biden and a reporter have a heated exchange about not attending Pope Benedict’s funeral.
Joseph Biden Regarding Pope Benedict’s Funeral: The funeral is projected to draw around 100,000 attendees, above the original estimate of 60,000.
When asked if we will attend Pope Benedict XVI’s burial, US President Joe Biden had an unpleasant exchange with a reporter. Mourners flocked to St. Peter’s Square to pay their final respects to Pope Francis. According to sources, about 100,000 people are anticipated to attend the burial, above an initial estimate of 60,000.
However, Joe Biden informed EWTN’s Owen Jensen that he will be unable to attend the burial.
“You’re not attending his burial tomorrow, why?” the reporter inquired of Joe Biden.
“How come you think that?” Joe Biden was eager to answer.
“Well, you tell me,” the reporter said, to which Joe Biden replied, “You know why,” to which the reporter replied, “You can tell me again.”
I’m not going to the funeral tomorrow since it would require a thousand people to show up. “We’d simply get in the way,” Joe Biden remarked, adding, “We’d move things in the wrong direction.”
Earlier, White House communications secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated that US Ambassador Joe Donnelly will be present for the funeral.
“In accordance with the late pope’s and the Vatican’s desires, the US Ambassador to the Holy See, Joe Donnelly, will represent the US during the pope’s burial. This is what – these were their desires. This is what they desired. So that’s what you’re witnessing from the United States “Karine Jean-Pierre said.
Pope Benedict died on Saturday at the age of 95.
